Buy and use pay stub credits

Last updated October 18, 2026

A pay stub credit is a prepaid pay stub. One credit covers one stub at checkout, so if you create stubs regularly — every payday for a small team, or for several clients — buying a pack of credits up front costs less per stub than paying for each one as you go.

Credits are optional. You can always pay for a stub at checkout instead, and nothing about building or previewing a stub changes either way.

1. Open the Credits page

Sign in, open your account menu, and choose Account → Credits. The page shows your current balance, the packs you can buy, and a Credits Log of everything that has changed your balance.

2. Choose how many credits to buy

Pick one of the quick packs — 5, 10, 25, or 50 — or enter a custom amount between 5 and 1,000. The page shows the price of each credit next to the regular per-stub price, the total for the pack, and how much you save, so you see the exact amount before anything is charged.

Pricing is linear: every credit in a pack costs the same, so there's no advantage to buying an awkward number to hit a price break.

3. Pay in the secure window

Choose buy and a secure payment window opens from our payment provider, Razorpay. Your card details go to them directly and never reach OakPaystubs.

Credits are added only after the payment is confirmed. If you close the window before finishing, nothing is charged and your balance is unchanged. Once the payment goes through, the new balance appears straight away and the purchase is listed in your order history, with a receipt PDF you can download.

4. Apply credits at checkout

When you check out, a credits box shows your balance. You can apply as many credits as there are pay stubs in your cart, up to what you have:

  • Leave the box empty and apply, and the most you can use is applied for you.
  • Type a number to apply fewer — for example, to keep credits for later and pay for part of the order by card.

The order total updates as soon as credits are applied, and you can remove them again before you pay. If credits, your plan, and any discount code together cover the whole order, the button reads Place order and no payment window opens — your stubs unlock immediately.

5. Track your balance in the Credits Log

Every change to your balance is a row in the Credits Log, showing the date, the activity, where it came from, the change, and the balance after. Purchases add credits, checkouts spend them, and a refunded order returns them. If your balance ever looks wrong, the log is the place to start — and the row's date and notes are what support will ask for.

Tip: Credits are spent only when an order is actually placed. Applying them to a cart you then abandon doesn't use them up.

Common questions

What's the difference between credits and a subscription plan?

Credits are a balance you buy once and draw down whenever you like. A subscription plan instead includes a set number of pay stubs in each billing period, used automatically at checkout. You can have both: your plan's included stubs are used first, then credits.

Can I apply credits to an order I've already paid for?

No. Credits are applied at checkout, before payment. A paid order is settled, and credits can't be swapped in afterwards.

Why can't I apply all my credits to this order?

One credit covers one stub, so the most you can apply is the number of stubs in your cart. Any pay stubs already covered by your plan this period are taken off first, so the credits apply only to the rest.

My payment went through but my balance didn't change

Credits land when our server confirms the payment, which usually takes a moment. Refresh the Credits page. If the purchase appears in your order history as Paid but the balance still hasn't moved, contact support with the order number.

Can I get a refund on credits I haven't used?

Requests are handled case by case — see Request a refund for what qualifies and how to ask. Include the order number from your order history.
